Heritage Events and Engagement Manager Lucy South recently joined York Hospital Radio to talk about PJ Livesey’s work at The Retreat in York.

During the interview, Lucy discussed the careful balance of preserving the site’s rich history while shaping its future and outlined her role in connecting the development with the wider community. She also shared why PJ Livesey’s long-standing experience in heritage regeneration makes it a trusted custodian for this important project.

The conversation touched on the origins of The Retreat, founded in the 1790s by William Tuke, and his influential approach to mental health care. Lucy also spoke about the events already taking place in the Georgian Recreation Hall, plans for the space as the development progresses, and the creation of characterful heritage homes alongside sensitively designed new homes.
