THE RESIDENCE YORK, BEST HOUSE IN TOWN

Duplex apartment – voted the best apartment in BBC’s Best House in Town series

A duplex apartment in The Residence – our conversion of the former Terry’s Chocolate factory – has been voted the best apartment in York in the BBC’s Best House in Town series.

It was lovely to see the iconic Grade II listed building looking very fine on the small screen and to hear the comments of the judges as they opened cupboards, inspected bathrooms and cast a critical eye over the space.

You can watch the series here

It is also a tribute to the interior design skills of owners Sarah and Glen who have created a sumptuous and sophisticated interior. The couple moved from a big house in the country with their seven-year-old son to the spacious duplex and say life is now “just easier”!

Asked what they liked about the development they said: “Internal features, the external features, the functionality of the fittings, the history and the location” – just about everything then!

The Residence apartment now goes through to the programme final against another three properties all aiming to be named Best House in Town.

The P J Livesey involvement at the former Terry’s Chocolate works continues and we are about to start work on converting the site’s landmark Clock Tower into 22 unique apartments.

These too will be very special places to live and with such a limited number interest is already very high.

People who register their interest will be the first to hear news of confirmed build times and details of individual apartments which will range from one bedroom to three bedroom plots.

WORK COMMENCES AT 825 DIDSBURY

Work has begun to convert former offices to 22 family sized newly built homes

Planning for the development was agreed late last year and the first homes will be ready for occupation by this autumn.

P J Livesey Director, James Woodmansee, said: “This is an opportunity to take a site with various buildings both listed and non -listed, some used and some no longer fit for purpose and create a place that will once again be truly part of the community. “

The 4.3 acre site contains a mix of buildings set within spacious grounds with mature tree and landscaping.

The red brick Parklands will also be retained and converted to provide 39 contemporary apartments while a second office building, Aspen House, will be demolished to make way for 22 new build homes.

In total the site will provide 85 new homes.

Demolition of Aspen House is already underway with sales starting off plan in the spring.

The Greater Manchester Pension Fund is providing development funding to the project and Councillor Brenda Warrington, Chair of GMPF, said: “We are delighted to be working alongside such a well-respected developer and look forward to seeing the transformation of the site and in particular, the conversion of the listed buildings into innovative and sought-after homes.

“I’m proud the Greater Manchester Pension Fund is willing to invest in the construction of much-needed housing whilst securing a good return for our members’ pensions. We’re excited by the pipeline of potential investments and we look forward to working on more opportunities to achieve our twin aims of significant investment returns to pay our pensions promises, whilst delivering homes, infrastructure and jobs for Greater Manchester.”

P J Livesey Group was advised by Slater Heelis Law with GVA HOW acting on planning.

YOUR LAST CHANCE AT ST. GREGORY’S PLACE

This is your last chance to own unique piece of heritage

This is your last chance to own unique piece of heritage, a two bedroom/two-bathroom apartment at our characterful St Gregory’s development in the historic town of Sudbury in Suffolk.

Our conversion of the former Walnuttree Hospital buildings has been incredibly popular both with people who already love this thriving market town and new commuters who appreciate both the quality of life on offer and the value for money.

Read what our residents had to say here

Plot 32 is in the main historic building and offers spacious living together with a master bedroom suite with shower, guest bedroom and separate bathroom.

It’s a light, bright apartment on the first floor, but best of all is the wide balcony that runs the length of the kitchen/living space and gives wonderful views over the neighbouring Water Meadows.

Priced at £309,950 , the property also includes two dedicated parking spaces.

Sudbury is just a 90-minute train journey from central London but offers a different pace of life with a busy weekly market, independent shops and restaurants and the wild open acres of the historic Water Meadows which have been public land for centuries.

Cedar House reborn

CEDAR HOUSE HAS BEEN REBORN

Our ambitious transformation of Cedar House at Woodbridge in Suffolk is now complete

The property is now a spacious five bedroom family home with handsome double bay frontage and contemporary bi-fold doors at the rear – and it looks stunning.

The building has been a landmark in Woodbridge for centuries and while originally built as a house it had suffered insensitive additions over the years and had latterly been used as office accommodation.

Our designs to give it new life were radical and involved demolishing the Victorian additions, turning the house back to front to make the most of the lovely plot and building a second match new bay window to give the house a ‘face.’

Teams of craftsmen from stone masons to carpenters to electricians and roofers worked on the project for months supervised by site managers Curtis Mighall and Alan Venables.

It is a proud moment for the whole company to see Cedar House complete and ready to take pride of place in Woodbridge for another couple of hundred years.

Please take a look at the breathtaking aerial footage of Cedar House today by clicking on the video on the left.

DEAL COMPLETES FOR SIEMENS

We’re completing our agreement with our partners, Siemens, Bruntwood and Manchester City Council.

Work can now start in earnest on 48 contemporary 4 and 5 bedroom family houses and a new apartment block. The homes are part of wider redevelopment of the nine acre site which will also incorporate new offices aimed at medical and technical businesses and improved landscaping. The scheme accessed from Nell Lane in West Didsbury will sit alongside the existing Sir William Siemens House and the new £65m Spire Manchester Hospital.

PJ Livesey director Craig Lynch said: “This is an important milestone for the partnership and we are excited about starting work to deliver a wide range of properties. These will be high quality family homes sitting alongside a distinctive new apartment building and we anticipate the first completions by the end of this year.”

Manchester City Council leader Sir Richard Leese said: “The development will bring new jobs in a strategically important location close to the motorway and only 10 minutes from Manchester Airport. This is welcome news and will contribute to the city’s strategies by creating employment opportunities which Manchester people will be able to access.”
